SharePlus Requirements & Troubleshooting tips
- Can't connect? Check with your browser if you can connect, open a safari instance and try to browse and view documents with the same account you have configured on SharePlus connection. What to look for? does the URL you type change once you log in? Can you open documents from the browser over an internet connection to sharepoint?
- Check SharePoint's web services url. SharePlus relies in SharePoint's web services, and we can check from the browser if they are available. If you open a browser and type the sharepoint server's url, appending the following text: /_vti_bin/Lists.asmx are you able to see a list of operations (eg: http://<myintranet>/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx)? or do you get an error message?

How do I use this app? How do I get started?
First of all, SharePlus is a mobile client to Microsoft SharePoint server. If you don't know what SharePoint is, you might want to check out this page (whatissharepoint ). In order to use SharePlus you need an account with at least read privileges in a SharePoint site.
The following videos will help you get started:
- Introduction
- How to configure the connection to a SharePoint server
- How to edit documents in SharePoint
- How to configure offline access
What are the differences between the Lite and Pro versions?
In a nutshell, the Lite version supports read only access to SharePoint servers.
The Pro version, on the other hand, allows to add and modify the contents of a SharePoint server. In the case of documents this is achieved using the "Open In" file sharing protocol between apps. SharePlus can send office documents to apps such as Documents To Go, and receive the modified version of the documents to update it in a document library.
Also the Pro version provides offline support, which means the ability to synchronize the contents of lists, to take them anywhere, even modify them offline, and then automatically have them synchronized back when the device is again in a connected scenario.
There are also additional features present only in the Pro version such as:
Favorites
The ability to mark lists and sites as favorite, and then filter the navigation by displaying only items marked as favorite.
Passcode Lock
Support to request a numeric PIN when the app is opened, adding an extra layer of security to your SharePoint data.
Grid view
A spreasheet like view displaying all the columns of a list, enhancing the experience of browsing metadata.
Calendar view
Calendar month view, making browsing appointments easier.
Picture handling enhacenments
Support to paste pictures from third party apps, plus select & automatic upload from photo albums when filling in picture fields in SharePoint lists.
Video and Audio Recording
The ability to capture images, audio, and video, and upload it directly into a SharePoint list.
Check In/Check Out & Approve/Reject
Support for SharePoint's check in/check out & approve/reject document libraries features.
When I go offline some of the documents are greyed out and I am not able to open them. Any idea of what is happening?
Grayed documents mean the synchronization process didn't have enough time to fully synchronize the contents of a list. In the case of document libraries, list items may have been stored for offline access but their corresponding attachments, may have not, and in this case, they appear grayed.
When I go offline some of the documents are not there. Any idea of what is happening?
Missing list items in offline mode means the synchronization process hasnt had enough time to grab all the contents of the SharePoint list. To fix this leave the application active, and idle, so that the sync process is given additional time.
Is it possible to edit lists with SharePlus?
Only in the Pro version.
Can I edit documents with your app?
For document editing SharePlus relies on third party applications, and the "Open In" protocol. Documents may be created, or edited and sent to SharePlus with the Open In file sharing protocol of the iOS. SharePlus stores all received files in the Local Files section, which works as a staging area for documents. Documents present there are available when creating new document libraries entries, or when updating one.
The following video shows how to edit documents in a SharePoint server using SharePlus and Documents To Go.
Document editing support is only present in the Pro version of SharePlus.
Why my blog posts are being shown as script lingo instead of what I published?
At the moment SharePlus displays the html structure of the published post, until a rich text editor, with what you see is what you get (WYSIWYG) support is released in the app with the app.
How do I delete files? How do I delete files from the local files folder?
Deleting files in SharePlus follows the same usage pattern as in other iOS apps. Which involves swiping the row item from right to left, which forces the display of a red Delete button, that upon tap, deletes the items, with or without user confirmation depending the case.
For a more detailed example, check out the following video on deleting items.
I can't see subsites with SharePlus, that I can see with my browser. Is there any permission I need?
Accounts with read only privileges by default can't browse subsites, but with one simple modification on the permission level read, on the SharePoint server site this can be fixed.
They need to have the "Browse Directories" granted. For a step by step description of how to do this, check this article.
Which office document editors are compatible with Shareplus? I have XXXX but it does not seem compatible.
Office Document editor apps to be fully compatible with SharePlus must implement the Open In protocol both ways, to receive docs, and to send them back to SharePlus, such as Documents to Go does.
If the Open In is implemented only one way, typically to receive documents, such as Pages does, one possible workaround is to auto send yourself the modified version by email, and from the email app, open it, and send it to SharePlus using the outgoing Open In, which the email client app implements.
I have a problem to connect, I get 404 - HTTP/1.1 404 NOT FOUND error
This error can be caused by configuring the url of a site that's either not accessible, because of VPN, or firewall restrictions, or by configuring the url of something which is not a SharePoint site, such as a list, or a page, within SharePoint.
For example, the following urls won't work, even if they do on a Safari browser
http://myserver/mysite/Shared Documents/MyTestPage.aspx
http://myserver/mysite/Shared Documents/
Because they belong to a page, and a list respectively. They should cause the mentioned error. On the other hand the following URLs should work:
http://myserver/mysite/
http://myserver/
You can make sure the provided url belongs to a SharePoint site by appending the following text to the URL ( /_vti_bin/Lists.asmx ) and testing it in the Safari browser. If it's a valid site you should see a nice web page with a lists of operations. Otherwise the provided url may not be accesible, or is not a valid SharePoint site.
